KICKING IT OFF! Week 1 Spring 2021 One Room Challenge

SPRING ONE ROOM CHALLENGE

#ORC Becomes a WHOLE HOUSE challenge

So, I’ve done something a little wacky (imagine that) I decided to participate in this spring’s Better Homes and Gardens One Room Challenge, But this time? Instead of nibbling at a single room, I’ve decided to chomp off a whole house!

Why in the world would I do something like this you ask?

Introduction story about this little happy home

Introduction story about this little happy home

ONE, it’s happening anyway. It is time to sell this little house and no time like the present, right? Read the background on this little project HERE I’m calling it #DIVORCEHOUSE

TWO, it’s time for what my friend Rachel Moriarty, who is a featured designer for this ORC, calls BIZABILITY

THREE, I never photograph client projects, so my portfolio needs a little updating.

FOUR. I might be certifiable. My Hubby is strong-arming the front end of this project with the demo and he will confer.

Quick intro. Hi, I’m Richelle Plett lead designer of RLP interiors located in the Kansas City area. My specialty in the design world is upholstery. In fact, I teach other design professionals about the science of upholstery construction so that they can articulate to clients what is going on under all the beautiful fabric and why one sofa can be so much more expensive than another. I have another session starting this June! Read a little more about that here.

In renovations AND upholstery construction it really is all about what lies beneath, isn’t it? What comes to mind here are all the insanely fantastical home-flipping shows that run rampant. I’m not hating at all! In fact, I love HGTV (wink wink) but I hope with this blog to show you what happens in a renovation when you DON’T have a crew of skilled tradespeople at your beck and call. Just me and The Hubbs and a limited budget of $15k to spend on 1051 sqft

Here is the basic layout

What needs to be done in that budget? Some of the stuff just isn’t pretty – so I probably won’t share those grimy details.

1.       A new HVAC unit

2.       New kitchen including appliances.

3.       New flooring throughout!

4.       Paint both inside and out

5.       Trim work

6.       Bathroom updates.

7.       Curb appeal

Geez. I’m kinda tired and needing a couple of ibuprofen already! The lucky part here is we don’t need to make any structural changes. Have you SEEN the price of plywood??

Please join along with me as we work to put my old #DIVORCEHOUSE on the market this spring!
