UPHOLSTERY UNCOVERED - Digital Access

$499.00

HERE’S WHAT YOU WILL LEARN!

  • LESSON 1 - Frames. Their materials and construction methods and how they relate to value and design. (This is where we discuss engineered plywood vs solid lumber frames)

  • LESSON 2 - Springs The various foundation materials that create the spring-up system. (Ok. That means we are going to talk about 8-way hand-tied springs, sinuous springs, elastic webbing, and all the others)

  • LESSON 3 - Padding. The materials which are applied to a frame to support and soften the frame structure (This is the Dacron, cotton, webbing – even *gasp* cardboard)

  • LESSON 4 - Cushions - The materials inside the cushion and their benefits and drawbacks (Is spring-down cushions REALLY the best??)

  • LESSON 5 - Fabrics - Various fabric options often used in Upholstery and how they wear in real life (What exactly does “performance” mean?)

  • LESSON 6 - Fabric Application - How a fabric is applied to a frame and the potential pitfalls of 2-dimensional fabric on a 3-dimensional frame (No honey, a bias stripe is NOT going to pattern match to an up-the-roll stripe because it’s geometry)

BONUS SESSION: A live chair tear down that happens in the Private Student Group to visually put together all the components of the previous lessons

FAQ:

How long is each lesson?

Most lessons are about an hour some go longer.

Will I be able to ask you questions about something in the course if I need more clarification?

Absolutely!! That’s exactly what the Facebook Student Page is for. You can also book me for a project support session if you need project-specific help that goes beyond a post.

Do you have LIVE group chat opportunities?

Yes! Once a month, there’s an opportunity to join a ZOOM webinar to go over an announced topic.

Will I be able to ask client-specific upholstery questions during the Q&A?

Project-oriented questions are best discussed in a private session due to time constraints. You are also welcome to ask questions in the private Facebook Student group!

I’ve purchased a lot of business and design education products and, honestly, not used many of them yet. How will this be different?

If you ever source (or plan to source) upholstery, you will start using this information right away! Understanding the science behind the construction of upholstery will help you sell better quality products to your clients because they will understand the WHY of where their money is being spent. Also? I’m here with ongoing support to make sure you understand the topics.

I really want you to SUCCEED! I’ve been known to call and email students to follow up on their progress. Accountability and accessibility are important to me when I teach.

Are you a coach?

Nope. Just an upholstery nerd.

How often do you run the class?

I heard your feedback! I’ve converted the class to self-paced, digital access. You can start at ANY time!

Can my team sit in on the lessons?

I offer a small group program that’s perfect for your design team! It can be completed in 2 days and focuses specifically on the vendors YOUR business utilizes. (look for the SMALL GROUP UPHOLSTERY UNCOVERED)

But as far as paying for one student and letting others sit in? This is an ethical question…I don’t like answering it. It makes me cranky.

To make the most of this, what is the time commitment?

At a bare minimum, set aside enough time to get through the videos. That’s about 10 hours. If you want to get THE MOST from this course, show up to the LIVE ZOOM session, participate in the Student Facebook Group and keep asking questions as they arise. I genuinely LIKE my students and hope they stick around!

Is this for new designers or seasoned designers?

Both! I promise you…this is definitely not taught in design school and is the nitty-gritty with photos as to WHY you should choose one thing over another for your client. One “seasoned” designer said the course was more in-depth than her master’s design classes. Another 30-year design veteran finally learned why her sofa cushions were repeatedly crushed.

What happens AFTER I sign up?

Great question! You’ll receive a welcome email outlining everything. Then, I send your book out the next business day via USPS Priority. That’s typically a 3-day delivery. Your access code will be inside. You will want the 125-page handbook as you start going through the videos so that you can take notes as needed.

Can’t wait to see you all there!
